Pomegranate Beef Stew

Easy, bold flavour from Persia.

Pomegranate Beef Stew

Today there is a Persian inspired dish on the menu. Exotic spices, pomegranate and comforting poppy seeds may seem weird at first glance, but work together perfectly. Give it a try, I am sure you will like it!

[New Blog Post] Ahhh, weight loss … the fitness industry evergreen. I’ve written a lot on this topic over the last years as I feel there is still a lot of confusion about it. This article helps you cut through the non-sense frequently found in mainstream media and focus on what really works. The basics. Enjoy!
[New Blog Post] If you need a hug from inside, you should definitely try zabaglione. Its silky texture made from egg yolks beaten over a bain marie with a little bit of sugar and wine make you instantaneously happy. Best eaten when it is cold and grey outside, it is an incredibly simple and fast dessert.
Age and dieting - many older people think that their age is holding them back when dieting. I can tell you that age alone has a small impact on weight loss or gain. There are a few age related adaptations though:
Most of us aren’t used to the bitter notes some vegetables like radicchio bring to the table. In a world full of sweet or salty treats, bitterness has been abandoned. Using a little kitchen magic, we take the edges off the bitterness and transform it into a crowd-pleasing side dish that goes with pretty much any meat or even fish. An Italian classic with a little Asian twist. Give it a try!
Sure, I love the simple and quick soda bread, but the smell of freshly baked sourdough is something else. I'm extremely chuffed about how it turned out this time. Crispy crust and soft crumb. Enough humidity to keep it fresh for the next days, without being soggy. Just the right amount of salt and spices without covering its own flavour. Just about perfect. No recipe, just a little bit of experience and patience.
Diet breaks and refeeds - the idea of taking a time off a diet has got quite a lot of attention. Is it better than a more traditional "suck it up and go through it" approach?
What to do after you overate? - Sometimes it just happens, especially during the festive season. You overate. And you feel bad. Not just because you've stuffed yourself to the degree of nausea, but also because you feel guilty. Like a failure. There are a few things that you can do to avert desaster and get back on track:
“Boost your immune system with this weird trick!” This and similar nonsense can be found everywhere. But is it even possible to boost your immune system? And if so, is it even desirable? What supplements do you need to take? Is there even any value in doing so? Does body composition alter immunity? A lot of questions and I tried my best to answer them all. Spoiler: working on diet quality is always king. Link is in bio.
Repetition tempo - how fast a rep is performed and if it is paused or not is a thing I definitely missed to apply in the past. Research hasn't found any benefits of slow or paused reps (for hypertrophy), but exercise science is often a little limited when it comes to nuances like this.

This is a high pull, a wonderful shoulder exercise but I often rather hit my upper traps instead. In the gym we already have found some versions where I do feel it exactly where I should. At home I did struggle until I came up with this version. You can make it more difficult with a stronger band or by stepping with each foot in a band sling and having therefore a double resistance band. I used a jo (a Japanese wooden weapon used in Aikido and Jodo): a broomstick is fine as well, but less cool 😜 Give it a try and tell me if you did like it.
